About The Artist
Mayra Rodas is a Venezuelan-American filmmaker, actress, and former dancer.
She fell in love with the world of art at the age of seven while taking classical ballet and Venezuelan folklore classes at the art conservatory in Maracay, Venezuela. Due to the political conflicts and crime increasing in her home country. She moved to the United States at the age of fifteen. At the age of sixteen, while going through cultural shock and adjusting to a new way of living she discovered a passion for the juxtaposition of images and sound.
Mayra graduated from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a major in film editing and sound design. While in school she was a member of ArtistCorp, a community engagement program in which she volunteered providing art instruction to ESL students. After graduating, she received the creative catalyst fellowship through the Kenan Institute, where she continued to work with minority communities in the Winston-Salem area. Her community work helped her shape her goal as an artist, filmmaker and storyteller.
As she finds her voice as an artist, she aspires to educate communities through storytelling, and entertainment, while bringing awareness to social and humanitarian issues.
